Adebukonla Adeiga Esther, Esq. is a Nigerian legal practitioner and Senior Associate at Lyons & Eagles Attorneys, with professional experience spanning corporate and commercial law, litigation and dispute resolution, regulatory compliance, capital markets, corporate governance, company secretarial practice, employment matters and general legal advisory services.
She brings to the Firm a commercially conscious and analytical approach to legal practice, combining a sound understanding of legal and regulatory principles with an appreciation of the practical and commercial objectives underlying clients’ transactions and business decisions.
Esther obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Olabisi Onabanjo University, graduating with Second Class Honours, and subsequently obtained her Barrister-at-Law (B.L.) qualification from the Nigerian Law School, Abuja, also with Second Class Honours. She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2022.
Her professional development has taken place across private legal practice, corporate environments and the Nigerian judiciary. She has practised with Tosin Idowu & Co. and R.O. Atabo SAN & Co., where she gained experience in litigation, dispute resolution, case preparation, legal research, drafting of court processes and legal opinions, debt recovery and the management of contentious and pre-contentious matters.
A particularly significant aspect of Esther’s professional development was her service as a Legal Assistant to a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. This experience afforded her valuable exposure to judicial decision-making, appellate legal analysis, case management and the consideration of complex questions of Nigerian law at the highest level of the country’s judicial hierarchy.
Her exposure to the Supreme Court environment strengthened her ability to analyse legal issues critically, identify material questions of law and approach complex legal problems with precision, discipline and sound professional judgment.
In addition to her dispute-resolution experience, Esther has developed a strong interest and competence in corporate and commercial legal practice.
Her experience includes drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements; corporate governance advisory; company secretarial matters; regulatory compliance; employment and labour matters; legal risk management; and general corporate advisory services.
She advises and supports businesses in identifying legal and regulatory risks, developing appropriate mitigation strategies and structuring corporate decisions and transactions in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Esther also has notable exposure to capital markets and corporate finance transactions, including matters involving Commercial Papers and Bonds. Her experience encompasses legal support for capital-raising initiatives, transaction documentation, regulatory requirements, corporate structuring and related commercial considerations.
This exposure gives her an understanding of both the transactional and compliance dimensions of corporate finance and complements her broader corporate governance and regulatory practice.
She is a Designated Compliance Professional (DCP) and has experience engaging with regulatory authorities and supporting organisations in meeting their statutory, regulatory and industry-specific obligations.
Her regulatory compliance practice involves assisting businesses in understanding applicable requirements, establishing appropriate compliance processes, identifying potential regulatory risks and developing practical measures for managing such risks.
At Lyons & Eagles Attorneys, Esther plays an important role within the Firm’s Corporate, Commercial and Regulatory Practice, supporting clients on commercial transactions, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, capital markets, company secretarial matters and legal risk management.
She also brings her litigation and judicial experience to bear in matters requiring the intersection of commercial advisory work and dispute prevention or resolution.
