Reuben Chaku, Esq. is a seasoned Nigerian legal practitioner with eleven years of post-call experience, with substantial competence in Energy and Natural Resources Law, Litigation, and Corporate Law and Practice.
Over the course of his professional career, Reuben has developed a broad and commercially relevant legal practice, combining extensive dispute-resolution and courtroom experience with corporate advisory work and a growing specialisation in the legal and regulatory framework governing the energy and natural resources sector.
He obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and subsequently proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, where he obtained his Barrister-at-Law (B.L.) qualification and was called to the Nigerian Bar. In furtherance of his academic and professional development, he returned to Nasarawa State University, Keffi, where he obtained his Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree.
Reuben’s professional experience spans both private legal practice and the natural resources sector. He worked with Toyinokebukola & Co., a mining company, where he gained valuable exposure to the commercial, operational, regulatory and legal considerations associated with the mining and natural resources industry.
This experience contributed significantly to the development of his interest and competence in Energy and Natural Resources Law, providing him with an appreciation of the interaction between law, regulation, commercial transactions and the operational realities of businesses operating within the extractive and natural resources sectors.
He subsequently worked with Kana SAN & Co., where he further developed his legal practice, particularly in litigation, advocacy, legal research, dispute resolution, corporate advisory and the management of complex legal matters.
Reuben has considerable experience in litigation and advocacy before the superior courts of record in Nigeria. His litigation practice encompasses the preparation and conduct of cases, legal research, drafting of originating and other court processes, development of litigation strategy, preparation of legal opinions and representation of clients in contentious matters.
His courtroom experience, combined with more than a decade of legal practice, has equipped him with a practical understanding of judicial processes, procedural law, dispute management and the development of effective strategies for protecting and advancing clients’ interests.
A major area of Reuben’s professional practice is Energy and Natural Resources Law. His experience and professional interests extend to legal and regulatory matters affecting the energy, mining and natural resources sectors, including regulatory compliance, commercial arrangements, transactions, licensing and operational legal issues affecting industry participants.
He also maintains a strong practice in Corporate Law and Practice, advising on matters relating to corporate transactions, commercial arrangements, business structures, regulatory requirements, contract documentation, corporate governance and general corporate advisory services.
